PARIS, NEW YORK, NASSAU, AFRICA

Sometimes you just sort of gravitate towards someone's music, without really over-analyzing why you like it. Lizzy Mercier Descloux is like that for me. Her first solo album was on ZE Records (home to the Contortions and James White & the Blacks), which is how I may have first become cognizant of her. Or maybe it was because she was friends with Patti Smith and Richard Hell. It certainly wasn't because she was French and easy on the eyes. Regardless, her first record flopped, and when it ended up in cut-out bins, I took the plunge; and I've been listening to her music ever since.
