IT'S NOT THAT KIND, LOVER BOY

I've posted stuff from Head before, but it's now posted in its entirety on YouTube (here). I really just needed something to pad Carole King's demo of "Porpoise Song." If you don't know the Monkees beyond the hits, they did get a little weird. Head is a good example, though not all of the weirdness is theirs. It was written and produced by Bob Rafelson and Jack Nicholson, and conceived (allegedly) during a brainstorming pot party with them and the Monkees in attendance. You can tell there was something going around. The whole thing is a jumble of short intertwined sequences that make little sense, but is a hoot to watch. Alongside the Monkees are Victor Mature, Jack Nicholson, Carol Doda, Annette Funicello, Frank Zappa, Sonny Liston, and Dennis Hopper; and that juxtaposition of personalities fits.

Head trailer. Full length film is here.

If you do know the Monkees beyond the hits, and know the movie, and the Carole King demo of "Porpoise Song," or otherwise couldn't give a shit, I'll see you next post.
