SURPASSING TAGALONG

Hortense Ellis was the kid sister of rocksteady great Alton Ellis. She recorded for Coxsone Dodd, Duke Reid, Lee Perry, Joe Gibbs, and Bunny "Striker Lee" Lee. Quite a resume, eh? She did some duets with her brother early in her career, and later used two other names, Mahalia Sanders (her married name), and Queen Tiney. Of the songs below, the one that surprised me was that last one, toasting/singing over the riddim (rhythm) of her brother's rocksteady hit, "I'm Still In Love With You," a riddim also used for Althea and Donna's "Uptown Top Ranking" and approximately six million other songs.
