THE GODFATHER

They're spoken word, and not entirely easy to dance to, but they are worth hearing. The New York Times just posted recordings that were originally inside dolls, recorded in 1890, making them the earliest entertainment recordings ever made. They were salvaged from Edison cylinders, the very first audio recording medium. There's all sorts of technical mumbo jumbo explaining how they were restored, so if that sort of stuff winds your watch, read the article. It is a good read. I've linked one sound file below, but if it doesn't work, go to there and right click on the arrows. Definitely check out "Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep". It'll fit nicely in your next creepy mix.

Is that the voice of Mr. Hankey on "Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep?"
